Elton began his career in Chicago, where he showed promise as an NBA All-Star and shared rookie of the year honours with Steve Francis. He was moved to the Los Angeles Clippers after two great seasons in Chicago when he established himself as a solid NBA starter and set career highs in all statistical categories. In his debut season with the Clippers, he set career highs in points and rebounds, averaging 24.7 points per game and 11.6 rebounds per game. He concluded his NBA career with two stints with the 76ers, Mavericks, and Hawks, where his performance dipped but he remained a formidable inside presence.
After playing for the Hawks in 2015, Brand announced his retirement, but in early 2016, he re-signed with the 76ers and came out of retirement. Later that year, he announced his second retirement, and two months later, he joined the Philadelphia 76ers as a player development consultant where he played alongside Lamar Odom.

Sure, being a two-time All-Star, one-time All-NBA, and Rookie of the Year isn’t the best case for an injury-shortened career, but weirder things have occurred (remember, Allen Iverson is in the Hall of Fame, and he’s the most overrated athlete who ever lived).
However, after years of being poor but one of the best players who never made the playoffs, Brand’s complete body of work is likely to keep him out.
